Rabindra Jayanti Celebration


On 9th May ,2013 South City International School celebrated Rabindra Jayanti commemorating the occasion of Tagore being the first Asian recipient of the Nobel prize in Literature. The glittering function was presided over by eminent edu-cationists Mrs Tapati Singhi and Mrs. Gargi Sen. Consul Sports/Education Bangladesh High Commission, Mr. Syed Tariq Hussain, renowned newscaster and moderator Mr. Biplab Ganguli and other dignitaries. The school was a host to a number of other schools participating in the celebration of Rabinra Jayanti namely, Vidyanjali International, B.D. Me-morial International and the underprivileged children of Smile Foundation. The participation of the schools commemorat-ed South City International School winning the prestigious ISA award from the British Council. Dance recitals were put up by the students based on Tagore's songs. The school choir gave a splendid rendition of Tagore's songs based on western musical themes. Bengali recitation from the Gitanjali enthralled the audience. The participating schools enter-tained the audience with their melodious rendition of popular Tagore songs. The narration was wonderfully scripted fol-lowed by dances.

Mr TarIq Hussain walked down memory lane informing the audience about Tagore's love for Bangladesh and his tem-porary stay at the ancestral house in Silaidaho and his famous compositions made during this time. Mr. Biplab Ganguly spoke about Tagore's multifaceted personality and its manifestation in his works. Mr. John Andrew Bagul, the principal of South City International School recited one of Tagore's translated poem much to the pleasure of the esteemed audi-ence.
