Ms. Satabdi Bhattacharjee

Principal

Smt. Satabdi Bhattacharjee, the Principal of South City International School, Kolkata, began her vocation as a teacher as a cognizant choice, driven by her regard and her excitement for the profession. In 2010, she has been the addressee of the TTIS Touchstone Award for the Best Teacher and in 2010–11, as the Fulbright Scholarship in Science under the USIEF India-US Teacher Exchange Program. Ms. Bhattacharjee is a firm believer of the child’s ability to learn and lead. A former Founder Principal of a renowned C.B.S.E school in Kolkata, she takes pride in being in the Founding team of few of the well known schools of the city. Education for her is a two way learning path, where her students have been the best teachers in her life. According to Ms. Bhattacharjee, every problem in life comes with a solution and therefore communication, critical thinking, a positive attitude and hard and sincere efforts remain her core strengths along with her ability to establish confidence in her team and her belief to the organization. “Organization above everyone else” is her mantra for professional excellence. She is a dynamic person who imparts sound value-based education by inculcating in the students’ habits of piety, kindness, empathy and discipline. Ms. Rupika Nath

Headmistress

With over 15 years of teaching experience and over 10 years of administrative expertise, Smt Rupika Nath, The Headmistress at South City International School, Kolkata, brings extensive experience to the role. Since joining SCIS in 2009, she has been an integral part of the institution's journey, holding various positions and shouldering diverse responsibilities. She has assisted in the process of affiliation for both CISCE and Cambridge and is a trained Cambridge educator. Academic qualifications include an M.Sc. in Analytical Chemistry from Pune University (2000), B.Sc. in Chemistry (Hons.) from St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata (1997), and B.Ed. from St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata (2002).

Ms. Anjali Burman

Primary Head

Anjali Burman is a dedicated educator and lifelong learner with a genuine passion for nurturing young minds with over 22 years of experience in the field of education. As a founder teacher of SCIS she has served in various roles, including teacher, curriculum coordinator, and as the head of a vibrant primary section.She believes in fostering a strong partnership between school, students, and parents to ensure the holistic development of each child. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, travelling,reading and exploring new cuisines and volunteering in community initiatives aimed at promoting education for children. Coming from an Army background Ms.Burman has had the opportunity to study in many schools across the country. She has a post graduate degree in History alongwith a degree in Library and Information Science and she has also done her Cambridge training in teaching. She believes in the famous lines by Albert Einstein “Education is not the learning of facts ,but the training of the mind to think”.

Ms. Sejal Arora

Pre Primary Head

Ms. Sejal Arora , the Foundational Years Head of South City International School , an alumna of La-Martiniere for Girls , Kolkata , a trained Flock Leader and Guides Captain and an efficient consultant at the British Council . In recognition to 26 years of exemplary contributions to the field of education, she has won the Global Teacher Accreditation Award in 2015 . She has also been awarded the ‘Teacher Par Excellence Award ’ by the Indian Institute of Hotel Management ( IIHM ) in 2018 . The Pehchaan group recognized her as “The teacher who made a difference” and gave her the Midas Touch Award in 2019. She loves working with underprivileged children , old age homes and stray animals . She has also been an accomplished Story Teller and the Brand Ambassador at Crosswords and Toy Story Bookstore. She has loved working as a member of the Editorial Board of the School Magazine for five years consequently.

She brings her boundless energy and enthusiasm to her role as a pre-primary teacher. Rupsita Ghosh

Lower Nursery Teacher

Rupsita Ghosh, with a qualification of B.A., M.A. in Literature and B.Ed, has been associated with the Pre-Primary section of the SCIS for last 1.5 years. She has a total of approximately 8 years of teaching experience in various schools like Calcutta Public School, Narayana School and Tree House. For her, school is an extension of home and brings with her the care, compassion & patience required to nurture the tender students of the Pre-Primary section. In her free time, she is an ardent music lover, an experimental cook and has a natural flair towards art and craft.

Shabnam is a passionate pre-primary teacher with a degree in Montessori Method of Education from the Indian Montessori Centre and a B.Sc. in Psychology. These qualifications give her a deep understanding of young minds. Shabnam is committed to creating a nurturing, engaging, and stimulating environment for young learners. Dipanwita Guha Thakurta

Upper Nursery Teacher

Dipanwita Guha Thakurta is a Pre-primary teacher with 19 years of experience in the field. She firmly believes that in school she holds a position of prime importance in the formative years of a child. She has completed her BSc. and to add to her expertise she also holds a Diploma in Primary and Montessori Teaching which helps her to create an environment of warmth to impart best education in her students. She nurtures their natural skills keeping in mind each of their uniqueness and potential. She has also completed Basic training in Cubs from Bharat Scouts and Guides which helps her to effectively manage and conduct Cubs classes in school. She loves baking and travelling to different places which make her even more creative and happy person.

Jolly Mukherjee

Jolly Mukherjee is a dedicated and enthusiastic pre-primary teacher with nearly 17 years of teaching experience, including almost a decade at her current school, South City International School. With an academic background with Science, having graduated with honors in Botany, she skillfully blends her scientific knowledge with her teaching approach. Her extensive training in pre-primary and primary education complements her experience, allowing her to create a nurturing and dynamic learning environment. Passionate about her work, she is committed to fostering early childhood development and inspiring a love for learning in her students. Outside the classroom, she finds joy in family time, gardening, and grooving to music. These hobbies bring fun and a touch of happiness to her life.

Sumita Basu

Upper Nursery Teacher

Sumita is a young-at-heart woman with a youthful spirit and a dynamic mind. An Honours graduate from Lady Brabourne College, she holds a TEFL certification from Jiao Tong University in Shanghai, and has received additional training from NIIT and in Montessori methods. Her extensive exposure to international cultures and diverse student groups has enriched her teaching approach. Since joining SCIS in September 2012, Sumita has proven herself to be hardworking and dedicated since 29 years of her teaching , consistently seeking out innovative and fun activities to stimulate her students' inquisitive minds. Her classes are known for being both informative and entertaining, often filled with laughter as she engages students with her unique voice modulations. Sumita is meticulous in her work, always staying ahead and being the first to submit tasks assigned by her superiors. Outside of the classroom, she loves to travel and lives her life with the warmth and care of a loving mother, maintaining a clean and beautifully decorated environment. Jyoti Gupta

Jyoti Gupta began her career in education as a teacher at the NGO EKTARA, where she worked for nearly two years before joining South City International School in 2022 as a Primary Teacher. Passionate about using innovative teaching methods, Jyoti strives to make her classes engaging and stimulating, with a deep affection for children and a commitment to meeting their emotional needs. Her enthusiasm for new teaching technologies ensures that her classes remain modern and relevant. Jyoti holds a B.A. in English Honours from Calcutta University and a B.Ed. in English from West Bengal University of Teachers' Training, Education Planning and Administration. With over 20 years of teaching experience, Nabamita Biswas has demonstrated a deep commitment to education, including a notable 5 years tenure at Delhi Public School,Ruby park and a significant period at South City International School. Holding a M.A. in English, B.Ed,TTC and certificate in Montessori and CIPP, Nabamita is also trained in Guiding and Scouting, serving as a dedicated Flock Leader. Mrs. Joanna Ivy Cooke, has a true passion for working with our youngest learners. She has received a Masters Degree in English from the University, and her Bachelors in Education from Shri Shikshayatan College. She has been working with us for the past 3 years.Helping each child progress in all areas of their development—academic, social, language, and motor—is a challenge that she is honoured to accept daily. Monica Mirchandani

Mrs Monica Mirchandani , a teacher at The Primary Section of South City International School , is an alumna of Pratt Memorial School. She has been associated with the school since its inception. She has specialized in English from Calcutta University and has been the house coordinator for Innovator House . She enjoys training children for elocutions, debates and assembles. Drama and script writing is her forte and she is passionate about it. She has also been privileged to teach Global Perspectives ( a new skill based subject that has been initiated in the curriculum this year ) . A voracious reader and an intrinsic dancer, she feels that all children are passionately curious and has always encouraged children to go beyond and reach for the stars. Snigdha Majumder

Ms. Snigdha Majumder is a dedicated teacher who finds joy in nurturing her students by effectively guiding them through their academic journey. She strives to bring discipline and dedication among her students through her teaching pedagogy. She has received her Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from University of Calcutta and Bachelor’s degree in Education from WBUTTEPA. She has also completed her PGDBA in HR from SCDL, Pune. She was a member of our school’s E-Newsletter team for two years and has also acted as the Primary Activity Coordinator for the academic session 2023-2024. Apart from academics, Snigdha is also a passionate classical dancer trained in three Indian dance forms – Odissi, Kathak and Bharatnatyam. Her love for the art has given her opportunities to perform in various prestigious dance festivals in different parts of India. An enthusiastic reader who also loves to travel and explore the world.

Bianca Virgina Monnier

Ms. Bianca Virginia Monnier is a dedicated teacher who enjoys being with the younger minds. She has completed her graduation from Loreto College, done her B.Ed from Singhania University and has done a P.G. International Diploma in TEFL. She is actively involved in church activities and in the All India Anglo Indian Association, Kolkata. During her freetime she enjoys tavelling, singing, doing zumba, reading and being with her family. "Do to others, as you would want them to do to you"-Mary Ward is her motto in life.

Sreerupa Bose

Ms. Sreerupa Bose is presently the classteacher of 4A and a Mathematics teacher for classes 3,4&5. Completing her schooling from Loreto House, she went on to complete her B.Sc and B.Ed from St Xavier's College, Kolkata. Her exposure in the Finance sector has enhanced her skills in technology. Her teaching career started in Loreto, and subsequently she became a part of SCIS in 2009. She loves to enhance a child's logical and reasoning skills based on Math & Science concepts through stories, games and daily life examples. She believes that, if students love Maths, they will develop a rational mindset. She has always been passionate about good music and books (whether in print or digital, Satyajit Ray being her favourite) as they help her relax. She also loves to keep herself fit by exercising regularly. She has been proudly bearing the spirit of SCIS in her heart since its inception.

Hritika Soni

Grade IV Teacher

Ms. Hritika Soni is a diligent devotee of her work. Having completed her Bachelor's in Commerce from The Bhawanipur Education Society College, she is also about to complete her Master's Degree from the Lovely Professional University, The Mittal School of Business. After successfully finishing her Teacher's Training Course, she embarked on her career at the age of 21 and holds four years of experience under her belt. She is a stimulating personality who goes the extra mile for her young students. Successfully embracing her role as an educator, she is also a passionate globetrotter who enjoys road trips with her family. Having visited numerous places within the country and a few neighboring ones, she is also an excellent cook and a passionate dancer. Additionally, she has shown interest in developing financial education for young learners.

Deepa Menon

Grade IV Teacher

Ms. Deepa Menon is an efficient as well as compassionate teacher, who loves to assist her young pupils in their difficult transitional stage. She is a very conscientious worker and a firm disciplinarian, who is always interested in students' welfare. Her main goal is to convey knowledge to young learners through various techniques that would help children up-lift their self-esteem and maintain interest and enthusiasm. She has received her Bachelor’s degree in Physiology from Presidency University and a Master’s degree from the University of Calcutta. She has also completed her B.Ed (Calcutta University) and Diploma in Information & Systems Management (Aptech). Apart from teaching, she has experience as a corporate level trainer in an international bank. Deepa is passionate about spirituality, meditation and travel. She strives to maintain a balance between work and passion.With an overall teaching experience of 12 years, she is proud to be associated with SCIS.

Rebecca Das is currently the class teacher of Class 4D, where she teaches Science to students in Classes 3, 4, and 5. With 19 years of experience in education, she completed her schooling at Pratt Memorial School and graduated from Rani Birla Girls’ College in Kolkata with an Honors degree in Education, along with a B.Ed. Rebecca is passionate about creating a nurturing learning environment where every child feels valued and supported. Outside of teaching, she enjoys music and gardening.

Ms. Sampita Das is a dedicated and resolute educator with 26 years of teaching experience. A lifelong learner, she completed her schooling at Loreto Convent and her college education at Bethune College and Presidency College, followed by a postgraduate degree from Calcutta University. Passionate about enhancing students' speaking skills, she also expresses her creativity through poetry in both English and Bangla. An avid reader and accomplished cook, Ms. Das enjoys traveling and meticulously planning her travel itineraries.

Sharmistha Gupta

Grade V Teacher

Ms. Sharmistha Gupta is an educationalist and strongly believes in motivating and assisting the young and future generations to pursue their natural predispositions and areas of interest. She believes in overall development of every child and her vision is to create a strong foundation during the formative years of young children. Sharmistha pursued and completed her Masters of Arts (M.A.) degree in History from Himachal Pradesh University, Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree from Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak, Bachelor of Arts (BA) from Maitreyi College, Delhi University (South Campus) and did her schooling from Lady Irwin Senior Secondary School, Delhi. She holds a Diploma in Primary Teachers Training (PTT) and a certificate in Early Child Care Education (ECCE). Sharmistha has 13+ years of teaching experience, spread across Delhi and Kolkata. She is employed with South City International School as a Primary Teacher (Social Studies) for Classes IV & V. Sharmistha is also the ‘Primary School-Activity Coordinator’ for Classes III to V. Prior to joining South City International School, Sharmistha worked with Delhi International School-Edge (Dwarka, Delhi), Shemrock school and Vinay Nagar Bengali Senior Secondary School. She was also the ‘Examination and Olympiad in-charge’ in Delhi International School-Edge, for the period:2015-2017. Outside work, Sharmistha is passionate about music and enjoys travelling to new places.

Sumita Sinha

Ms. Sumita Sinha is a committed teacher who is passionate about teaching. Her love and inclination for her subject has always helped her to nurture the young inquiring minds. Ms.Papia Guha Thakurta believes in holistic development of students. She holds a Master’s degree in English Literature along with a B.Ed degree. She has completed her schooling from St.Thomas Girls’ School. She has an experience of 12 years in the teaching profession.She encourages students to think out of the box. She has been an active member of the SCIS e-Newsletter team for the past 3 years. Her hobbies include reading, photography and travelling.

Susmita Mukherjee

Bengali Teacher

Mrs. Susmita Mukherjee has been a valued member of South City International School for the past 14 years. She teaches Bengali as a second and third language, from Pre-Primary to Class V, and also conducts activity classes for Classes I and II. Passionate about interacting with children, she is dedicated to helping them develop strong personalities. Mrs. Mukherjee is actively involved in the school's cultural programs. Beyond her teaching role, she enjoys traveling, exploring different types of music, reading, and discovering new cuisines.

Nisha Gupta

Hindi Teacher

Ms. Nisha Gupta holds a Master's degree in Hindi Literature and a B.Ed. from Calcutta University, along with a Diploma in Hindi Journalism. She has been a dedicated Hindi teacher at South City International School for the past 10 years, teaching in both Pre-Primary and Primary departments. Nisha is known for her strong connections with students and her passion for teaching. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, spending time with children, listening to music, and trying new recipes.

Shoma Guha Roy

Maths & Science Teacher

Ms. Shoma Guha Roy is a dedicated Science teacher at South City International School, where she has been inspiring students since 2010. Her focus is on nurturing curiosity, building confidence, and fostering a deep understanding of scientific principles and mathematical reasoning through hands-on exploration. Additionally, she coordinates the Olympiad examination for the Primary section. Ms. Guha Roy holds a B.Sc. from Raipur University and a B.Ed. from Government College of Education, Raipur. Outside the classroom, she enjoys gardening, especially growing flowers, and experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen.

Sharmistha Bose

History Teacher

Sharmistha Bose is a passionate and dedicated educator with a deep commitment to nurturing young minds. She earned her Bachelor of Arts (Honors) in History from Scottish Church College, a Master’s degree in History from Calcutta University, and a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) from A. J. C. Bose College. With 20 years of teaching experience, she has been a vital part of the institution since its inception.
