August: A Month of Joy in India
On August 15, 1947, India sought emancipation from the atrocities of British rule. This day symbolizes freedom, unity, and resilience. As August dawns, the spirit of Independence fills the air with celebrations, parades, dance, music, flag hoisting, and speeches, reaffirming India's unwavering commitment to democracy and unity.
Freedom Is Not a Farce Anymore
Mahatma Gandhi said, “The attainment of Swaraj is the first step towards economic freedom, social justice, and cultural resurgence.” While political independence was achieved, true liberty remains elusive as many still find their wings clipped, unable to soar freely. The quest for full freedom, beyond mere independence, continues as we strive for genuine socio-economic and cultural empowerment.
Inclusivity Should Not Be Elusive
Inclusivity should be our reality, not an elusive dream. Imagine a world where every person, regardless of gender, race, or religion, is revered for his individuality. In India, however, many still cling to the belief that men are superior to women, stifling women's achievements. Ancient caste systems perpetuate social exclusion and economic discrimination, with invisible chains still binding the underprivileged. Despite India's secular promise, racial and religious biases sow division, with fair skin idolized and derogatory slurs commonplace. The LGBTQIA+ community struggles for acceptance, their love and identities often overshadowed by tradition. Gender fluidity faces a shadowed existence, battling rigid norms. Even body size discrimination persists, with narrow beauty standards affecting daily life. In a land of diverse shapes and colors, true inclusivity remains a distant goal, but with concerted effort, a brighter, more inclusive future is within reach.
Fair & Lovely: Not So Fair to All
Fair & Lovely, once the crown jewel of Indian beauty, promised radiant, fair skin but faced fierce backlash for pushing unrealistic beauty standards and implying light skin's superiority. Reborn as Glow & Lovely, its true intentions remain mired in controversy. Critics argue that a mere name change can't mask the brand's deeper flaws, questioning whether it genuinely seeks to illuminate or still casts a shadow over natural beauty. As India grapples with its complex history, it stands at the threshold of a new dawn awaiting its epiphany that will finally release it from the myriad forms of discrimination and its vicious stranglehold. The choice to embrace inclusivity and justice can transform shadows into a beacon of hope. Every day, people strive to break through the thick wall of exclusivity, seeking justice and humanity within traditional mindsets. One day, that wall will surely crumble, paving the way for a brighter, more inclusive future.
